drop a tear in my wineglass
Okay, so today was a VERY interesting day. After class, we went for a criminal court trial! It was SO cool. Apparently the criminal court in London opens up some trials to the public, and the one we went for was a really serious murder case, and there were mentions of crack cocaine and guns and stuff! It was a bit surreal, but also very exciting! I was more than a little amused by the lawyer wigs, but yeah. Real courtrooms are pretty boring, compared to the outright dramafests they have on TV! The lawyers spoke for hours in droning monotones, and went on and on about non-exciting stuff! And nobody even said objection! Not once! :( Oh well. Such is real life.
Anyway, after that, we decided to walk down the river, because I'd bought a carton of chinese takeaway for lunch, but had only managed to finish VERY little, and didn't want to throw it away, so I'd kept all the noodles, stolen a new disposable fork from the cafe, and planned to give it to any one of the four homeless people who sit along the river who wanted it.
Anyway, after I gave them to this really cold-looking man ( :( ), we were walking under (I think) the Southwark Bridge, and saw the coolest thing - this carpet on which there were dozens of colourful envelopes laid out with nice phrases on them. They contained poetry inside, which was so cool! The man tending to the carpet was really, really nice (and being the dork I am, I was so busy fangirling over how cool this was I forgot to ask his name). Basically, he would either recite one of his poems for you, and you put as much money in his cup as you wanted, and/or took one envelope home with you. :) Being the greedy poetry hog I am, I asked him to recite one, and I was happy with that, but then he said that he wrote that one with someone a lot older in mind, and pointed to some envelopes with "younger" poems! So I asked him if I could have one, and he was all "of course, of course!" :D Whee! I emptied out like, a pound ($3!!) of loose change into his cup, but it was totally worth it! Linda and Cai Ping "bought" poems too, here are photos of mine and Linda's! I bough Love Song and Linda bought The Kiss. :) *dorky grin*

Love Song
Where is the darkness gone?
Where has my mind been?
I feel as light as moonbeams
Dancing on the living water.
But if night comes,
Where is the darkness?
After long searching at last,
I have found something shining,
Like a bridge over strife,
Like a golden dream,
Like a nightingale's song -
And yet not so!
I know what I've found:
I've found your love,
your love;
I've found your love.

The Kiss
After the impact
I'm spinning, humming!
I've reverberating -
insensible metal
shivered like a bell!
As to what it means
I'm utterly lost!
I'm simply babbling -
like a baby babbling!
I must be falling -
in a hole through time -
tumbling and falling!
Wiped out yesterday -
Wiped out tomorrow-
myself from life estranged.
I know only his:
the world can be changed
by a single kiss.
Yeah..they're not Shakespeare, but they're sweet and sappy and cheesy and what street poems should be and I love them mostest!! :)
It reminds me of the street poet from Before Sunset, who wrote this poem for Celine and Jesse by the river:
Daydream delusion, limousine eyelash
Oh baby with your pretty face
Drop a tear in my wineglass
Look at those big eyes
See what you mean to me
Sweet-cakes and milkshakes
I'm a delusion angel
I'm a fantasy parade
I want you to know what I think
Don't want you to guess anymore
You have no idea where I came from
We have no idea where we're going
Lodged in life
Like branches in a river
Flowing downstream
Caught in the current
I carry you
You'll carry me
That's how it could be
Don't you know me?
Don't you know me by now?
Yeah. Yay for pretty poetic things and doing good deeds and relatively warm weather.
♥
